I'm a Tenant, Not a Lord

Today’s Bible Reading:  2 Samuel 8-9; 1 Chronicles 18-19; Matthew 21
Topic: Fruitfulness

SCRIPTURE:  Psalm 106

Jesus says to the chief priests and Pharisees…

44 …I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit.

45 When the chief priests and the Pharisees… knew he was talking about them. 46 They looked for a way to arrest him…  (Matt 21:43-46 NIV)

OBSERVATION:

Just previous to these verses Jesus had told the parable of the tenants of a vineyard who tried to take ownership by killing the landlord’s son. The message was clear. Into the hands of Israel’s priests and leaders had been placed the responsibility and care of God’s Word—His Law. Though merely tenants of the Law which was meant to bear fruit unto God, the religious leaders had come to act like lords coveting the fruits of their position over and above the true purpose of God’s vineyard.

APPLICATION:

When presented with the truth, the chief priests and Pharisees had a wonderful opportunity to repent, learn and grow to be fruitful servants. We likewise come to times when the Lord presents us with truth about our lives. Will we react with stubbornness and pride, or will we humbly repent, mature and become more fruitful for Him?

PRAYER:

Lord, reveal any part within me that resists Your truth. May I be a fruitful servant to You.
For my best and Your glory. Amen.  –AP
